MIRNA BOGDANOVIC
Mirna Bogdanović is a Bosnian-Slovenian jazz singer and composer based in Berlin, known for blending contemporary jazz with elements of electronic music, avant-garde, and experimental pop. She studied classical piano first, then shifted to jazz vocals, training in Klagenfurt and later at the Jazz-Institut Berlin, where she completed her studies. Early in her career she also performed in youth jazz ensembles such as the German National Youth Jazz Orchestra and won the DownBeat Student Award in 2015.
As a bandleader, she formed the Mirna Bogdanović Group in 2019. The ensemble features some of Berlin’s prominent jazz musicians. Her music is often described as highly atmospheric and genre-crossing: she uses her voice not only in a traditional jazz singing style, but also as an instrument layered with effects, harmonies, and electronic textures.
She has released several critically acclaimed albums, including:
-
Confrontation (2021) – awarded German Jazz Prize for Debut Album of the Year
-
Awake (2024) – awarded German Jazz Prize for Album of the Year
Today, she is considered one of the rising voices in European vocal jazz, especially in the Berlin jazz scene, known for combining strong compositional ideas with improvisation and modern production techniques.
"AWAKE is quite a statement from artist who defiantly has something to say and is not afraid to open her soul to those who dare to listen. " Jazz in Europe
