DELAY LAKE
The new trio Delay Lake —Mirna Bogdanović (voice), Keisuke Matsuno (electric guitar), and Kalle Kalima (electric guitar)—captures attention from the first moment with its rare instrumentation and unmistakably personal sound. Performing a new repertoire composed especially for the group by Kalle and Essi Kalima, they draw on influences ranging from singer-songwriter traditions to jazz, indie rock, and electronic music. The result is a fresh, finely textured sonic world in which melodic clarity meets lyrical nuance.
Their songs form an interconnected cycle, exploring themes of belonging, growth, and release from multiple perspectives. “Pripyat” revisits the abandoned city shaped by the Chernobyl disaster; “Lost Places” wanders through forgotten buildings in search of untold stories; and “Emories“ reflects on the sources of support that help us navigate an uncertain world. The trio’s multilayered approach—poetic texts, intricate interplay, and a broad palette of colors—creates music that is both intimate and expansive.
All three musicians are active in numerous award-winning projects recognized in Germany and internationally. Bogdanović, known for her distinctive voice and acclaimed original work, has twice received the Deutscher Jazzpreis for her albums “Confrontation” and “Awake.” Matsuno, a Berlin-based guitarist with roots in New York’s creative music scene, is sought after for his genre-crossing collaborations and innovative mix of analog and digital techniques. Kalima, one of Finland’s most versatile guitarists, has toured worldwide and recorded extensively, contributing to ensembles from experimental trios to orchestras and earning multiple honors along the way.
